Improv to Improov Memory Care was founded with the mission to help facilitate and disseminate awareness on the power of improv as an alternative approach to memory care.
As part of our principles, we aim to provide programs that are at the same time educational and informative yet expressive and creative.
With the help of professional therapists and certified practitioners, Improv to Improov Memory Care currently offers therapy based improvisational theater sessions free of charge to memory impaired individuals in nursing homes, assisted living facilities and hospitals, while aiming to provide workshops for caregivers and community members to help create awareness and facilitate discussion on the topic of dementia and Alzheimer’s.
Innovative approaches to memory care are changing how we care for and communicate with individuals suffering from memory related illnesses. Today, researchers, family caregivers, and performers are continually noticing that the rules of improv run parallel with caregiving methods for Alzheimer’s and dementia care.
There are currently 5.4 million Americans with Alzheimer’s disease. According to the Alzheimer’s Association, there are at minimum an additional 5 million memory-impaired elderly who could benefit from specialized treatment and/or programming.
